What Is Polyester Screen Printing Mesh?
Polyester screen printing mesh (also called silk screen mesh or polyester bolting cloth) is a precision-woven fabric stretched over a frame to carry emulsion and transfer ink onto substrates. Unlike natural silk used historically, modern polyester monofilament mesh offers consistent aperture size, low elongation under tension, and resistance to the solvents and UV emulsions used in industrial printing.
Kaibang's mesh is manufactured entirely from polyester monofilament (PET 100%) using weaving looms imported from Germany and Switzerland, then heat-set to lock mesh geometry and stabilize tension.
How to Choose the Right Mesh Count
Mesh count (threads per centimeter, or T/cm) is the single most important specification for print quality. Higher mesh counts hold finer detail but restrict ink flow; lower counts pass more ink and suit coarser substrates.

Choosing Between White and Yellow Mesh
White mesh diffuses light during exposure, which can cause slight halation at the emulsion edge. Yellow mesh absorbs scattered UV light and produces sharper stencil edges - it is preferred for fine-pitch electronics printing (e.g., PCB pads below 100 μm). For general graphic or textile jobs, white mesh is equally effective and slightly lower cost.
-
Thread Diameter and Opening Rate
Opening rate (also called open area %) directly affects ink deposit volume. For a given mesh count, a thinner thread diameter increases opening rate and ink flow; a thicker thread adds durability. Kaibang supplies both Standard (S) and Thick (T/HD) variants for many mesh counts. Example: at 54 T/cm, the PW(T) variant has a 39% opening vs. 35% for the PW(HD) variant - use PW(T) for flat colors and PW(HD) for extended run lengths.

Application Guide by Industry
- Electronics: PCB and Solar Panel
PCB solder mask and silver paste printing require the most demanding mesh specifications. Misalignment or inconsistent deposit thickness causes yield loss. For PCB solder mask flood coat, 43–54 T/cm PW(T) mesh in yellow is the standard choice: the yellow color minimizes photographic halation, and the controlled aperture ensures uniform paste height. For crystalline silicon solar cell silver-paste finger printing, 90–120 T/cm mesh is commonly specified, as finger widths of 80–60 μm require the finer apertures.
-
Glass and Ceramic Decoration
Glass decoration inks are often frit-based and abrasive. Kaibang's PW(T) (thick variant) grades at 28–47 T/cm provide adequate durability against abrasion while maintaining sufficient aperture for ceramic frit particle passage. For tempered-glass frost printing or color ceramic decals, 54–68 T/cm is typical.
-
Textile Printing
Flat-bed and rotary textile printing uses the widest mesh widths - Kaibang supplies rolls up to 3.65 m wide, which covers most industrial flat-bed frame sizes without joining. For discharge printing and plastisol inks on cotton, 32–47 T/cm white mesh is standard. For fine halftone sportswear graphics, 54–68 T/cm is used.
-
Advertising, Packaging, and General Graphics
Spot-color poster and packaging printing operates in the 40–64 T/cm range. Kaibang's 47-55PW(S) grade, with its 51% open area, is a versatile all-round choice for water-based and UV-curable ink systems on paper, cardboard, and plastic substrates.
